Consumer price index
Compared with the previous month, the national consumer
price index increased 2.3 per cent, against the previous year - by 5.7 per cent,respectively.
The national aggregate index of food and non-alcoholic
beverages group increased by 4.6 per cent, and 1.6 per cent in housing, water,
electricity and fuels group which was major contribution to the increase in the
overall index by 2.3 per cent, against December 2009. Therefore, the prices of
alcoholic beverages and tobacco group increased by 0.2 per cent, the prices of
clothing, foot wear and clothes group by 0.9 per cent, the prices of
furnishings, household goods group by 0.4 per cent, the prices of communication
group by 0.3 per cent, of recreation and culture group by 0.1 per cent, of
restaurants and hotels group by 3.4 per cent.
The prices of health group decreased by 0.3 per cent, the
prices of transport, education, miscellaneous goods and service groups were
stable. In January 2010, against the previous month, the consumer price index
decreased by 0.2 per cent in Arkhangai aimag, in a range of 0.2-5.7 per cent
increased in remaining 20 aimags and Ulaanbaatar.
General government budget
In January of 2010,
the total revenue and grants of the General Government budget amounted to 154.7
bln.togrogs and total expenditure and the net lending were 220.1 bln.togrogs
representing a deficit of 65.5 bln.togrogs in the General Government budget overall
balance.
The higher deficit
by 36.7 bln.togrogs against the same period of the previous year was due to
total revenue increase, which was by 11.1 point lower than the total
expenditure increase. The current revenue of the General Government budget
amounted to 140.0 bln.togrogs and the current expenditure reached 207.7
bln.togrogs. Thus, the budget current balance was in deficit of 67.7
bln.togrogs.
Compared with the
same period of the previous year, the tax revenue increased 49.4 bln.togrogs or
64.8 percent. This was mainly due to increases of 26.2 bln.togrogs in windfall
tax revenue, of 8.2 bln.togrogs or 66.7 percent in social security
contributions, of 10.4 bln.togrogs or 6.1 times in royalty, of 2.4 bln.togrogs
or 9.9 percent in value added tax.
Compared with the
same period of the previous year, the non-tax revenue increased by 6.9
bln.togrogs or 92.4 percent. This was mainly due to increase of 2.5 bln.togrogs
or 6.1 times in navigation revenue, of 3.2 bln.togrogs or 78.3 percent in
revenues from budget entities.
Compared with the same period of the previous year, the total expenditure and
the net lending of the General Government budget reached 220.1 bln.togrogs
increasing 107.6 bln.togrogs. This was mainly due to increase of 5.5
bln.togrogs or 14.2 percent in wages and salaries and 93.2 bln.togrogs or 3
times in subsidies and transfers, in January 2010.
In January 2010,
spending of 10.4 bln.togrogs on capital expenditure was higher by 0.9 bln.togrogs
or 10.0 percent over the same period of the previous year. Increase in capital
expenditure was due to the increase of 1.0 bln.togrogs or 10.4 percent in
domestic sources of the capital expenditure.
External trade
For the first month
of 2010, Mongolia traded with 70 countries from all over the world and total
external trade turnover reached 295.5 mln.US dollars, of which export made up
163.5 mln.US dollars and import did 132.0 mln.US dollars.
The total external
trade balance turned a surplus of 31.5 mln.US dollars. The surplus decreased
19.4 mln.US dollars, or 38.1 percent compared with the same period of the
previous year.
Compared with the
same period of the previous year, total external trade turnover increased by
5.6 mln.US dollars, or 1.9 percent, of which import by 12.5 mln.US dollars, or
10.4 percent, but export decreased by 6.9 mln.US dollars, or 4.0 percent.
Compared with the
same period of the previous year, the total export fell due to declines of 90.5
percent in volume and 89.3 percent in value of gold, in unwrought or
semi-manufactured forms.
Mongolbank
reports
According to the
report of the Bank of Mongolia, at the end of January 2010 the money supply
(broad money or M2) expanded to 2871.0 bln.togrogs which reflects the decrease
of 9.0 bln.togrogs or 0.3 percent over the December 2009, and an increase of
669.8 bln.togrogs or 30.4 percent compared with January 2009.
At the end of January 2010, the currency issued in circulation reached 350.8
bln.togrogs, decreasing 21.0 bln.togrogs or 5.6 percent against December 2009
and increasing 4.2 bln.togrogs or 1.2 percent against January 2009.
The amount of loans outstanding at the end of January 2010 was 2,674.4
bln.togrogs, hence an increase of 19.4 bln.togrogs or 0.7 percent compared with
December 2009, by 2.5 bln.togrogs or 0.1 percent compared with January 2009,
respectively.
Meanwhile, principals in arrears increased 0.7 bln.togrogs or 0.6 percent over
the December of 2009, reaching 122.5 bln.togrogs which was 4.6 percent of total
loans outstanding, and decreasing by 2.3 bln.togrogs or 1.0 percent against
January 2009.
The amount of non-performing loans reached 458.2 bln.togrogs, which was 17.1
percent of the total loans outstanding, and it decreased 3.8 bln.togrogs or 0.8
percent over the December of 2009, and increased by 262.0 bln.togrogs or 2.3
times against January 2009.
