According to a briefing by the Director of the
Government Office, Ch.Khurelbaatar, the Government meeting on Thursday heard
the report of the Director of the Nuclear Energy Authority on several issues in
the uranium sector, including how licenses are issued and how foreign license
holders have been selling their shares.
It was decided that all the licenses in Mardai, which had
been issued apparently in violation of the law but have been re-registered
after December 15, will now be regularized. A working group will be asked to
suggest ways how this can be done in conformity with the law.
The Government also decided to advertise the nuclear law and its provisions so
that companies in Mongolia
and abroad clearly know what they can or cannot do. For example, no company can
sell or transfer more than five percent of its shares without permission from
the Nuclear Energy Authority.
Minister Khurelbaatar also reaffirmed the Government’s
decision to hold at least 51 percent ownership of all uranium deposits.
